Revolut Data Incident Exposes User Passports and Crypto Records
Revolut inadvertently shared user identification documents and crypto transaction logs after complying with a fraudulent request sent from a government email domain.

Fintech platform Revolut recently disclosed that it complied with a fraudulent data inquiry, resulting in the unauthorized disclosure of customer records. The company fulfilled the request after receiving it directly from a government agency's official email domain.
The exposure affected a limited group of customers and included sensitive personal identification, such as passports, as well as comprehensive cryptocurrency transaction histories.
Incidents like this highlight the privacy and security trade-offs of centralized platforms that maintain comprehensive user identity files and financial logs. Using secure self-custody solutions to hold your own crypto keys helps minimize the exposure of your personal financial footprint to third-party data breaches.
